Status: Implemented
Brief Description: CRMB encompasses using ground tires in the asphalt mixes using one of the following methods:
Dry Method: Dry rubber particles are added to aggregate and bitumen in a pugmill at the asphalt mixing plant. The rubber is usually mixed with the aggregate prior to bitumen addition
Wet Method: Crumb rubber and bitumen are reacted together at high temperature to produce a crumb rubber binder. The CRMB is then added to the aggregates in a mixing plant, in the same way as any other binder. (Adopted by Ashghal)
Brief Description (CRMB Wet Method):
In the wet method CRMB is produced by combining crumb rubber from used car/truck tires and bitumen, through a highly controlled specialized blending process. It should be noted that CRMB has been used to improve rheological properties of conventional binder (60/70 Pen) similar to PMB. It meets all performance requirements of PMB, but has superior environmental benefits (PG76E,V,H -10). It has several benefits when properly produced, stored, handled, and constructed. CRMB producers are qualified as per Ashghal guidelines 2018/0035882/7.

Major CRMB benefits:
Improve durability and performance including rutting and fatigue.
Reduction in Noise (Quieter).
More sustainable solution and reduction of landfill and tires debris.
Improve skid resistance.

It should be noted that it is implemented in Wearing Course layers placed since 2020 in most Ashghal RPD projects.
