Chain Cutter/Drum Cutter

Status: Implemented

The drum/chain cutters equipment technology involves an attachment in which rotating drums fitted with picks, strategically placed along the outer diameter, are driven by a hydraulic motor at high speeds cutting rock or ground. This innovative attachment effectively creates trenches with precise widths, eliminating unnecessary overcutting and excessive material production. As a result, it ensures minimal to no extra excavation, particularly in narrow corridors, thereby reducing fuel consumption and aiding in the reduction of carbon emissions. These practices align with sustainable environmental principles, ultimately contributing to cost savings.

Achievement and savings:

The maneuvering of a chain cutter is much better than a jack hammer, which will allow us to excavate more than one utility at the same time or excavate them combined (where applicable).

Using chain cutters will reduce the time required for the excavation activity, so that we can release the traffic and safety materials ahead of the scheduled time to the other areas.

The noise generated by the chain cutters is very low compared to the  jack hummers and will cause less public disturbance.

The working area might be narrower since the maneuvering of the chain cutter is better than the jack hummer and the actual width of the trench will be smaller so the TDP’s can be wider and more comfortable for the residents.
