Status: Implemented
Using Road Surface Profilometer (RSP) for measuring longitudinal roughness of pavement surfaces in terms of International Roughness Index (IRI).
Smoother pavement will provide comfort driving, reduction in vehicle emissions, reduction in vehicle wear and tear, and increases of pavement longevity. The RSP collects real-time continuous measurements through non-contact lasers and GPS option at or near to traffic speeds. (refer to graph below).
The technique was used in Al Khor Expressway where IRI test was conducted on all asphalt layers to achieve a seamless rideability on the wearing course surface. The technique supported the Client to achieve a Guinness World Record for 25 Km of non-stop Wearing Course paving.
